VAR Melbourne 1179AM/Digital IRIS

Vision Australia Radio Melbourne broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1179AM and on VAR digital radio, meeting the information needs of people with a print disability.

Based at Vision Australia head office in Kooyong, the station is powered by 250+ committed volunteers broadcasting over 100 hours of reading and specialist programs each week.

VAR Melbourne networks programs across the seven VAR regional stations in Victoria and also shares content nationally with other stations in the RPH Australia network.

Vision Australia Radio also produces the IRIS digital radio service, offering a mix of magazine and music programs from across the RPHA network. IRIS can be heard via digital radio in Melbourne and Adelaide.

A variety of programs, including Talking Vision, Talking Tech, Hear This and the Seeing Eye Dogs Show are available as podcasts to stream online or download via the Vision Australia Radio website.

VAR Bendigo 88.7FM

Listeners located within the Greater Bendigo region, as well as surrounding areas including Echuca, Maryborough, Carisbrook, the Macedon Ranges and Heathcote, can tune into Vision Australia Radio (VAR) on the 88.7FM frequency.

Programs coming live out of the Vision Australia radio complex in McIvor Rd include a twice daily reading of the latest edition of the Bendigo Advertiser (Every Monday - Saturday) and an Around the Region program, which encompasses newspapers from the various localities within the listening area. (Some of these news titles include The Carisbrook Mercury, the Welcome Record, The Maryborough Advertiser, The Riverine Herald, The Kyabram Free Press, The Bendigo Weekly, and the Weekly Times. Around the Region airs every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (weekly times only) and Friday afternoon.

In addition to readings from various newspapers, local content may also encompass the Bendigo Magazine, the Bendigo Business Enterprise Magazine and other associated boutique publications.

Interviews with local organisations and personalities include such topics as entertainment, health, safety, consumer affairs and local government, as well as services provided by Vision Australia.

The Vision Australia radio 88.7FM station in Bendigo is staffed by a team of over 40 dedicated volunteers, who each week professionally deliver over 16 hours of local content to their listeners. The Bendigo station is one of only a few VAR stations within the network, which is coordinated almost entirely by a volunteer steering committee.

VAR Geelong 99.5FM

Geelong 99.5FM operates out of Vision Australia’s centre at 79 High Street, Belmont, offering newspaper readings, local interviews and more.

Start your day with the Geelong Eye Opener at 7.00 am Monday to Friday and listen to all the day’s news from The Geelong Advertiser – 1.00 pm Monday to Friday and 12 noon Saturday.

Catch up with local current affairs on Tuesday Magazine, Tuesday 2.00 pm, community news on Networking with Vision Australia Geelong on Thursday at 3.30.

For the kids, Leedy’s Books Alive runs Monday 3.30 and Friday 3.00 pm.

Ros Stuart and Judy Stephens keep listeners informed and entertained with The Remarkables, Monday 3.00 pm and Live it Up, Thursday 3.00 pm.

And for sports fans, tune in on Saturday afternoon from 1.00 pm for full coverage of the Newtown Chilwell FC Match of the Day.

VAR Mildura 107.5FM

Vision Australia Radio Mildura was established in 1998, powered by 60+ volunteers that work in the radio station 7 days a week either as presenters, readers or technical operators.

Mildura 107.5FM has an estimated audience of over 5,000 listeners that tune in every day to listen to locally based programs, including the Sunraysia Sunrise and Daily program which covers the main articles from Mildura’s main newspaper.

The Country Living program focuses on stories from the Weekly Times, and the Catalogue program features the main specials from the local catalogues. There is also the Wentworth Standard, Red Cliff Settlers and the North West Rural Bulletin, all focused on local stories for the Sunraysia area.

VAR Shepparton 100.1FM

Vision Australia Radio in Shepparton has been broadcasting for 11 years, and is supported by some of the most well-known announcers in the Goulburn Valley.

Presenters include Rod Kilgour and Pat Florence, who both play a large role in bringing Vision Australia Radio to Shepparton.

Tune in on FM 100.1, operating from the Vision Australia centre on the corner of Archer St and Channel Rd, and hear readings from the Shepparton News and other regional papers within the Shepparton listening area.

VAR Warragul 93.5FM

Vision Australia Radio Warragul is a dedicated radio service serving the local and surrounding Gippsland community on 93.5FM. The station boasts 40 volunteers, including presenters, readers and technical support people, but there’s always room for more.

VAR Warragul broadcasts around seven hours a week of local content, including reading from local newspapers and magazines and community information programs. Listeners also hear programs networked from Melbourne.

Along with the one-hour news service from Monday to Saturday, Vision Australia Radio Warragul presents Kaleidoscope from 2pm every Friday, a lifestyle magazine program featuring local people and their stories, particularly in art and music.
